***** Interview with Land Lovers *****

Q. When did Land Lovers start? Tell us about the history...
Land Lovers started as a home recording project in 2008. I made the album Romance Romance (https://landloversmusic.bandcamp.com/album/romance-romance) and used it to help me put a band together. The first version of the band came together within a few weeks.

I had been in a few bands before that, always as the singer-songwriter, but Land Lovers was the first time it clicked.

Q: Who are your influences?
Although there are some deep influences based on how I first learned to write songs (The Beatles, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, lots more), I am seldom conscious of influences nowadays. I suppose it becomes a factor during recording and mixing if you're working with other people because you need references to get ideas across. These are too varying to pin down to a handy list of names.

 Q. Make a list of 5 albuns of all time…
Impossible to decide so take this as today's 5 albums, they would be different tomorrow:
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: The Boatman's Call
Curtis Mayfield - Roots
The Human League - Dare
Abba - The Visitors

Q. How do you feel playing live?
I used to be incredibly nervous, for years and years. Now I feel settled and confident and I generally enjoy gigs a lot. If we happen to be particularly under-rehearsed, the nerves can come back.

Q. How do you describe Land Lovers´ sounds?
Lyrical pop with choruses, bridges, dynamic shifts: the whole lot.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs ?
On the most recent album, we did it in a very traditional way: we rehearsed the songs until we were really good at playing them, then we went into a studio and recorded them live. Then we put some adornments over the top after a few weeks' consideration.
Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Look up No Monster Club, you will enjoy them.
Q: Which band would you love to made a cover version of?
Abba, and we have been playing SOS at some of our shows recently.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
We want to get rid of every last copy of our new album, The Rooks Have Returned. To that end, we're going to play lots of shows this summer. Then we'll see what to do next.
Q: Any parting words?
Skelocrats are another band you'd love, honestly. Obregado, readers!
